Visiting Punggol with friends and wondering what you can get up to here?
Fortunately for you, there are a lot of activities you can happily enjoy with others in Punggol now, from biking to fishing. Today, we’ll go over some of our favourites!
Biking
Biking fits Punggol pretty well, we think, because it’s an environmentally friendly way of getting around. That's appropriate given that Punggol is probably still most famous for the greenness of its scenery.
You can bring your own bike, of course. But if you don’t have one, there are quite a few shops for renting bikes in the area, with options ranging from mountain bikes to touring bikes. Pick your poison and enjoy the ride with your companions!
Bird-watching
This is another environmentally friendly option for those who want to get around Punggol while enjoying the sights. Nature flourishes in Punggol, so it’s unsurprising that there’s a lot of avian life here.
If you do decide to bring your bird-watching friends and binoculars here, look out for species like the Black-naped Oriole and Yellow-vented Bulbul.
Our favourites are probably the kingfishers, thanks to their flamboyant colouring. You can find both White-throated Kingfishers and Collared Kingfishers at the park, especially near the waterway!
Fishing
Fishing is another possibility here. If you do plan to fish, stick to either the three fishing decks along the Punggol Promenade Nature Walk or the 17th avenue.
This is because NParks now allows fishing only from those areas. Fishing at other places used to be allowed, but there are currently more restrictions than before to protect marine life (which is all to the good!).
While the most common catch remains catfish, there are actually quite a few other fish to be found here. You can find cichlids, gobies, haruan, and more!
Football or Laser Tag
You can actually play football or laser tag at Punggol too! The best place to go for this is probably Uber Sports Punggol Hub.
The place offers some well-maintained pitches that can be booked for fairly reasonable rates. Our advice is to try to book a pitch off peak hours, as the difference between the rates then and the ones at peak hours is pretty large.
At the time of writing, for instance, off-peak rates are $50 per court per hour. During peak hours, the same court would cost $95 per hour.
So, try to book a court anywhere from 9am to 6pm on Mondays to Fridays. Their peak hours are from 6pm to 2am on weekends and 9am to 2am on public holidays.
Jogging or Walking
If you feel like stretching the legs a bit, go for a jog or a brisk walk with your mates. The length of the waterway is absolutely perfect for this, as it offers some amazing views that will keep your heart and muscles pumping!
Most people take the route that goes from the waterway park to the Lorong Halus Wetland and Coney Island. Feel free to take the route that you want, though, as there are so many options - you can even go on to the nearby Pasir Ris park if you want to!
